Greetings from Antonia Ferriol, RD of CIEE Palma de Mallorca!

Our Spring students arrived less than two weeks ago into Palma de Mallorca. How exciting to meet at the Orientation Hotel, then wandering around the old streets of Palma for the first time, and finally trying the different kind of Mallorcan tapas and pambolis. Now our students are settled in their Spanish home, know how to move around the intricate streets of Palma, have started going to the gym at the university and to meet with their intercambio, and have attended for a whole week their CIEE and regular university classes.

BT Orientation walk

Plaza Mayor

CIEE language classes (Beginning Spanish, and Advanced Spanish for Business and Tourism) visited the 15th century castle of the city of Palma.

Bellver group

This castle is well known for its museum of history of Palma, for being the only Gothic round castle in Spain, wonderfully preserved, and for its incredible views of the Bay of Palma.

No wonder its name Bellver means “Beautiful view”.

Bellver 2

This semester, CIEE students are enrolled in the following CIEE and UIB classes: International Meetings and Event Planning, Contemporary Spanish Cinema and Literature, Beginning Spanish, Advanced Spanish for Business and Tourism), Internship Seminar, International Protection of Human Rights, Survey of Spanish Literature, Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, Tourism Industry Contracts, Public Law of Tourism, Tourism Promotion Management, Quality Management of Hospitality Corporations, International Tourism Development, Psychology of Groups, Psychology of Personality, Couple Treatment and Therapy, Intelligence, and Psychology of Art.

Catedral

Cathedral and Arab Almudaina Palace

No wonder... The first time that a person sees the Mediterranean Sea from the top of the 16th Century walls of the old City of Palma, with the impressive Gothic Cathedral behind and the deep blue sea on the front, one can’t stop marveling and thinking how lucky Mallorcans are, being able to see this view every single day.

Eight students are undertaking internships this semester, and they have been attending interviews this week to start in the coming two weeks. Companies in which they will be interning are: Logitravel, Sol Melià, Santa Clara Urban Hotel, Palma Aquarium, M3Forum Events, Nixe Palace, Highlife Mallorca Events, Marina Hotels, Saint Michel Hotels, Amara marketing.
